After an assignment, the high-level Sky Lounge at UniLodge Melbourne City gives you somewhere else to sit. The residence at 480 Elizabeth Street also has study, fitness and entertainment spaces across several floors, with RMIT nearby. It is a useful option if you attend city classes and would spend time in the common areas.
The address is 480 Elizabeth Street. UniLodge lists RMIT at less than 300 metres away (its own distance description, rather than our straight-line measure to the campus centre), with Queen Victoria Market nearby and Woolworths and Coles about 200 metres away. For the University of Melbourne's Parkville campus, take a northbound tram along Elizabeth Street. Many RMIT classes are within walking distance. The Free Tram Zone is useful when you first arrive, but you need a Myki outside it; check the PTV map for the current boundary.
The 51st-floor Sky Lounge has a piano and kitchen. Level 6 has a cinema, gym, lounge, games area and barbecue. There is a study space on Level 27, shared laundry on Level 7 and bicycle storage. Room types range from studios to two-person and larger shared apartments. Published room information lists a bed, wardrobe, desk and chair. A studio offers more privacy, while a shared apartment can suit you if you want to manage the rent and are comfortable sharing a kitchen and common areas. Ask whether your exact room has a kitchen and private bathroom; do not assume from a promotional image.
Nearby supermarkets and Queen Victoria Market make groceries straightforward. The market has a wide produce selection, but is closed on Mondays and Wednesdays. For Asian ingredients, look along Elizabeth Street. Melbourne Central has everyday shopping, a chemist and banking services. The building has its own gym; if you want group classes or more equipment, compare local gym fees and opening hours before joining elsewhere.
Some older public resident posts praise the views from Level 51, the piano space and building activities. Others say a studio can feel compact, or describe the effort of using stairs during a fire alarm when staying on a high floor. These posts come from different years and personal experiences, and do not describe every current room or facility. During a viewing, check whether you can fit your desk setup and luggage comfortably, and ask how fire drills and lift maintenance notices are communicated.
Prices and lease terms are subject to the latest quotes at the top of this page. Prices vary by room, lease dates and availability; this is not one comparable contract quote. The UniLodge page describes furnished rooms and bill arrangements by room type. Check the charges in your own agreement, including rent frequency, bond, move-in date, cancellation terms and bill inclusions.
When you first arrive, learn the secure entry, grocery and chemist routes, and the way to campus during daylight. Check the night entrance as well. Bedding and storage items are easy to buy after arrival. Photograph your room, appliances and furniture at move-in. Melbourne City may suit you if you study at RMIT or in the CBD and value shared facilities. If you need a roomy studio or a particularly quiet space, compare layouts and room aspects before choosing.
