Indi Southbank is at 132 Kavanagh Street, near Southbank’s food and arts precinct, with a pool and shared workspace in the building. It is student accommodation with a long-term rental model, where you arrange your own lease and bills.
Melbourne Square is nearby for everyday groceries. Its precinct includes Woolworths, Pacific Asian Grocer and cafes and food around Hoff Boulevard, with Chinese and other Asian restaurants across Southbank as well. The Yarra promenade, NGV and Malthouse Theatre make it easy to fit a walk or an exhibition into your week. There is a gym in the building; pharmacies and clinics are available towards Southbank and the CBD, while bank branches and more chain stores are concentrated in the city. On your first evening, learn the main-street route from the tram stop to the entrance.
You are close to the river and the Arts Precinct, but RMIT City and the University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus are not right outside the door. Trams and buses run near Kavanagh Street; most students will head towards the CBD first, then choose a stop based on their teaching building. Flinders Street Station is about 1.2 kilometres away. If you study at Monash Clayton, include the transfers in your commute rather than relying on a straight-line map distance. Check PTV on the day for the best service and timing.
Independent public resident reviews for this building are limited. For now, the location and facilities are more useful starting points. During a viewing, check the pool, shared kitchen and lifts around the time you would normally come home.
The shared spaces are a big part of the offer: an outdoor heated pool, sauna, gym, games room, cocktail lounge, co-working areas and a bookable meeting room. There is also a shared kitchen, dining and entertainment rooms, landscaped gardens with barbecues, a pet run and dog wash. Apartments have air conditioning, a full kitchen, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. Furniture packages are optional, so check what is included in the apartment you are considering.
Prices and lease terms are subject to the latest quotes at the top of this page. They cover different listings and platforms, rather than matching lease conditions; check the furniture package separately.
This is a whole-apartment rental. Confirm the weekly rent for the apartment itself. If you are sharing with friends, ask who signs the main lease, how bills are split and whether a change of housemate needs approval. Also check whether furniture, utilities, the bond, pets and parking are extra. Display furniture in a sample apartment may not come with your lease. A second visit in the evening can help you check your route home, street noise and whether you will use the shared facilities enough to make them worthwhile.
If you like riverside walks and the Arts Precinct and want a gym or workspace at home, Indi is worth comparing. If you have daily classes at a distant campus, work out the commute before paying extra for the building’s facilities.
