Iglu Melbourne City is student accommodation at 229 Franklin Street in Melbourne CBD, around a 2-minute walk from both Queen Victoria Market and Flagstaff Gardens. For new students hoping to walk to RMIT University, the university is about 8 minutes away on foot.
Getting to class and exploring the area
RMIT is also around 8 minutes away by tram. Once in Melbourne, try your route using your timetable; allow extra waiting time if taking a tram.
Walk to the market and gardens as you get to know the area, then try the route to class to see whether this daily routine suits you.
Room types and costs
Operated by Iglu, the building offers rooms in shared apartments and private studios. Shared apartments have private bedrooms and bathrooms, with shared kitchens and living areas. Compare bathroom and kitchen arrangements separately: an ensuite room does not give you a whole apartment to yourself.
Shared facilities include a gym, study spaces, a courtyard and barbecue area, lounges and a laundry. At an inspection, visit the study spaces and laundry as well as the bedroom to see whether they suit your habits.
Publicly displayed sample starting prices in 2026 are $515 per week for a room in a 6-person apartment, $525 per week for a room in a 5-person apartment, $665 per week for Standard Studio and $705 per week for Premium Studio. None of these examples has confirmed availability.
Applications for Semester 1 2027 are open. Ask an adviser about actual quotes, vacancies, move-in dates, lease terms and whether utilities and internet are included.
